Abstract
1,038,499. Washing machines. VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE A.G. Nov. 8, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962; Nov. 15, 1962; Feb. 13, 1963], No. 44239/63. Heading D1A. [Also in Division F4] A cabinet component, e.g. the door, lid or body of a domestic washing machine, comprises an inner wall formed of an injection moulded plastics material and having grooved edges for receiving the edges of an outer wall, the space between the inner and outer walls being filled with an adhesive insulating material. As shown in Fig. 1 a refrigerator cabinet comprises an inner liner 7 formed of a butadiene-styrene copolymer or a polyacrylonitrilebutadienestyrene and having peripheral rearwardly directed grooves 5 which receive the edges of an outer shell 2 formed of metal plates 7, 8 and 9. A downwardly directed groove 6 receives a floor panel 3. The space between liner and shell is filled with in situ foamed polyurethane which bonds the liner and shell together. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown) a refrigerator door comprises a plastics liner 10, formed with inwardly directed peripheral grooves 15, and an outer wall panel 14 having its edges located in the grooves, the panel 14 being introduced during assembly through a slot in the lower edge of the liner which slot is subsequently closed by a cover plate 18. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the door is assembled by placing the upper edge of panel 14 in a slot 21 formed in a forwardly extended portion of liner 10 and subsequently forcing the lower edge of the panel over a projection (not shown) formed on the lower edge 23 of liner 10. In further modifications the grooves are outwardly or forwardly directed and the edges of panel 14 have appropriately directed bent over edge portions which fit therein (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown) and, when the grooves are substantially wider than the panel, the edges of the latter are provided with right angles or inclined flanges which when inserted in the grooves bear against opposite sides thereof (Figs. 9 and 10, not shown).
