Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A swing door 2, which may be a sheet of P.V.C. or of wood or metal, mounted in a frame 1 is pivoted by spring urged hinges which return the door to a central position or retain the door in an open position if opened sufficiently to pass a dead centre position. In one form, Fig. 7, the moving part of the hinge is mounted in the frame 1, the fixed part 31 of the hinge carrying cams 36 engaging shoulders on the moving part. A spring 34 adjusted by a nut 35 loads the hinge. When the door is opened to the position shown in chaindot it remains open. An edge 42 on the frame is elastically deformable a n d swings against the door frame to make a tight fit. The shape of cams 36 can be altered by means of inserts to alter the position at which the door will remain open. The nut 35 may have teeth on its exterior engaged by a spanner in the form of a worm gear to adjust the spring load without dismantling the hinge. In an alternative embodiment, the cams are on the moving part of the hinge and the spring is mounted in a tube forming part of the fixed portion of the hinge, the tube being let into the door frame.
