Abstract

Reinforced plastics components are made by de-gassing filler material under reduced pressure in a vacuum chamber and then impregnating the filler material with liquid synthetic resin under reduced pressure in a vacuum chamber the filler material may be glass fibre matting and may be heated while being treated under reduced pressure the synthetic resin may be degassed when it enters the vacuum chamber. In an apparatus a container 1 is connected to a rotary pump 4 by a pipe 3 and gate valve 2. Filler material 9 is placed in container 1 and a vacuum applied. Synthetic resin is then introduced through 6.
