Abstract

In a mica foil bonded with a synthetic resin e.g. an epoxide, silicone or polyester resin, the mica is a mixture of muscovite mica with a minor amount, e.g. 20%, of phlogopite mica. The muscovite mica is preferably prepared by heating at up to 800 DEG C. and introducing into a liquid whereby it is converted into pulp. The phlogopite mica is preferably mechanically prepared by crushing under water. From the pulp, a mica paper foil is manufactured. The mica foil is dried at about 100 DEG C., preferably 105-120 DEG C. before impregnating with the bonding agent. The foil may be reinforced and supported by means of woven glass, paper, or synthetic fibre or film material.
