Abstract

1,082,374. Constant-force spring mechanisms. MURRAY MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Aug. 19, 1965, No. 35610/65. Heading F2S. A member 17, e.g. a lever, cam, armature &c., in a circuit-breaker mechanism, and which is angularly movable on a fixed pivot or shaft 10 is biased into its " off " position by means of a helical spring 13 which is accommodated mainly in an opening 12 in the member 17 with its upper end received in a pie-shaped cut-out segment of the pivot 10. Within a predetermined angle of displacement the spring force varies inversely as the moment arm, as illustrated in Figs. 2a, 2b (not shown), so that the torque remains substantially constant. The member 17 may be fixed and the shaft or pivot 10 angularly displaceable.
