Abstract
1,081,850. Grading machines. B. LOSHAK. April 21, 1966, No. 17431/66. Heading G1M. A size grading machine for fruit and the like comprises a belt 10 for transporting the fruit 12, a light source 20 and a photo-cell assembly 21 and means 22 for blowing the fruit off the belt 10 said means being operated on interruption of a beam of light between the light source and the photo-cell. The blowing means comprises a nozzle, a pressure source and a valve 24, the valve being adapted to open at a signal from the photo-cell so that air may be blown against the fruit to move the fruit laterally off the belt into bins. The bins have a sloping base 37, Fig.4 (not shown) and the fruit is stopped by an end stop 38. The separate bins are provided by means of partitions 39, Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown). The height of the light source and photo-cell above the belt 10 can be varied by adjusting screw 16 to raise or lower bar 15. A number of the light source and photo-cell assemblies are positioned along the belt with the bar 15 adjusted to varying heights.
