Abstract

1,081,612. Safety harnesses. BRODERNA OTTOSSON & CO. A.B. March 13, 1964, No. 1752/63. Heading A3V. [Also in Division E.2] A safety belt comprises a chest strap anchored in a motor vehicle which strap is extensible inelastically when loaded as the result of a collision and a hip strap anchored in the vehicle which is inelastic and inextensible or elastic. One end of a web 10 of a chest strap and webs 12, 14 of a hip strap are anchored to the vehicle at the points 11, 13 and 15 and the free ends are connected by a buckle 16. The web 10 is made of inelastic, extensible material; alernatively it is made of elastic material with means which provide inelastic extension. To this end, one end of the web 10 is connected in a loop between two points on the vehicle, one point being a releasable anchorage which yields after a collision and allows the loop to straighten and lengthen the strap. Alternatively the web carries an abutment on which an anchored blade rests maintaining a loop in the web. After a collision and extension of the web the blade engages behind the abutment preventing the web returning to its original length.
