Abstract
1.080,911. Centrifugal separators. IMPERIAL TOBACCO CO. OF CANADA Ltd. Oct. 14, 1964 [Oct. 15, 1963],. No. 40666/63. Headings BIT and B2P. A centrifugal separator, for use at the outlet end of a pneumatic conveying system, comprises a cylindrical casing 6 having a tangential inlet 7 and a solids outlet and rotary air lock 8, 9, 10, both extending the length of casing 6, and an air discharge device comprising at least two annular air discharge ducts 14, 15, extending from respective axially spaced inlets to a common air outlet (16), (Fig. 2, not shown), and having vanes 20, 25 which impose axial flow on air passing through the ducts. In use, outlet (16) is connected to a suction fan. The ducts are formed by coaxial conical and frusto-conical members 17 (19). Vanes 20, 25 may be straight radial (Fig. 7, not shown), or curved and extending beyond their enclosing members (19), 23 to run parallel, adjacent to their leading edges, to the partly circumferential air stream. An eccentrically placed baffle 47 constrains the air to a decreasing spiral motion, most of the solids being lost at wall 55 in the first revolution and all being precipitated before the air enters discharge device 13.
