Abstract

1,080,044. Container closures. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. July 20, 1965 [Aug. 5, 1964], No. 30728/65. Heading B8T. A container closure comprises two peripherally bonded resilient plates 1, 2, one of which carries a valve 3 through which a pressure medium may be passed into the enclosed chamber 7, thereby forming an inflated body 8 of reduced effective diameter. On insertion into the container mouth the pressure may be released; increasing the effective diameter again through the radial resilience of the plates, and forming a tight fit in an annular groove in the container wall. The plates may be of metal soldered around their peripheries, or of rubber bonded together peripherally by vulcanization. The valve 3 may be of the non- return type, and may be removed after insertion of the closure into the container mouth, thereby effecting permanent closure of the mouth.
