Abstract

1,079,787. Couplings between wires. AMP Inc. Nov. 18, 1965 [Dec. 18, 1964], No. 48982/65. Heading H2E. Two wires W and W<SP>1</SP> are interconnected by means of a C-shaped connector C and a wedge member B which is driven between the wires by means of a propellant explosive charge housed within the wedge member B. The wedge member B has a bore 18 (Fig. 2, not shown) lined with stainless steel in which a piston 22 at the outer end of which is a loop 26, is slidable. An explosive charge is located in the bore between the piston and the end of the bore, this charge being detonated by striking a firing pin 36 projecting from the top of the wedge, which in turn strikes a percussion cap. The loop 26 is secured to any suitable means to prevent movement of the piston rod relative to the connector C, such as an extension (28), Figs. 4 to 6 (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 959,884.
