Abstract

1,079,164. Critical pressure boilers; regulating steam temperatures. COMBUSTION ENGINEERING Inc. June 2, 1965 [June 4, 1964], No. 23596/65. Heading F4A. The reheat steam outlet temperature of a supercritical forced flow steam generator operating with a limited recirculation, is controlled by varying the working medium return flow through valve 40 and conduit 42 from the furnace tube inlet to the inlet of economizer section 14, so as to reduce heat absorption from the combustion products in this section and increase the temperature of the products at the primary steam reheat section 30. Feedwater passes through economizer portions 12, 14 to mixing vessel 18 to mingle with the recirculated portion of the working medium. The flow then passes through recirculating pump 36 furnace tubes 20 and outlet pipe 22, whence part is recirculated to mixing vessel 18 through line 38 and the remainder passes through superheater 24 to a high-pressure turbine (not shown). Reheat steam returns through line 28 to steam reheat sections 30, 32. Controller 52 adjusted by reheat steam outlet temperature sensor 48 varies throttle valve 40 to maintain this temperature at a desired value. Gas recirculation may be used to maintain the primary superheated steam outlet temperature. In a modification (Fig. 2) the return flow to the economizer is drawn solely from the recirculated portion of the working medium.
