Abstract

1,007,737. Forced flow steam boilers. SULZER FRERES S.A. July 27, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 29027/62. Heading F4A. A forced flow vapour generator particularly for operation at supercritical pressure has a combustion chamber 32 lined with waterwall tubes 14 which extend vertically and in parallel relation between inlet and outlet headers 30, 18. Centrewall tubes 12 extending similarly between headers 24, 26 form a partition in the chamber 32 and are connected in series with and upstream of the tubes 14 in relation to the flow of working medium. At full load working medium is supplied by a feed pump 22 through lines 46, 200 to the centrewall and waterwall heating surfaces and flows directly from the header 18 to a superheater 48 and thence to a turbine 56. At part load a recirculation pump 10 draws some of the working medium from the header 18 and delivers it through lines 60, 78 to mixing vessels 20, 80 and thence by lines 200, 28 to the centrewall and waterwall section respectively. By this means only part of the recirculated working medium passes through the centrewall section which, having a smaller crosssectional flow area, requires less recirculation flow at low loads to protect the tubes than does the waterwall section. A throttling valve 82 may be used to determine the proportions of the recirculating flow. Recirculation through the centrewall section may cease before that through the waterwall section, the point at which recirculation ceases depending upon the characteristics of the pump and upon the pressure conditions in the vapour generator. In modifications the recirculation pump is disposed in series with the main through flow of working medium downstream of the waterwall section (Fig. 3, not shown); upstream of the centrewall section (Fig. 4, not shown), and between these two sections (Fig. 5, not shown). In a further modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the pump 10 is disposed between the centrewall and waterwall sections 12, 14 but the recirculation flow for the centrewall section only is taken from a point upstream of the waterwall section.
