Abstract

Foamed polyurethanes are produced by reacting an organic polyisocyanate with a polyether or mixture of polyethers containing 3 -OH groups per molecule and water in the presence of a low boiling liquid said polyether or mixture of polyethers having an OH value of 70-170 mg. KOH/g. and the amount of polyisocyanate being between 90 and 100% of that which is stoichiometrically equivalent to the polyether, water and any other active hydrogen containing materials present in the mixture and the low boiling liquid being used in sufficient amount to produce a foam requiring an indentation load not greater than 25 lbs. per 50 sq. inches to produce a 25% deflection. In an Example (1) tolylene diisocyanate was added to a mixture of oxypropylated hexane triol, stannous octoate, monofluorotrichloromethane, triethylene diamine, siloxane and water and the mixture allowed to foam in a mould.
