A load measuring apparatus comprises a hydrostatic load cell 10 connected by a liquid-filled tube 14 to a differential pressure gauge 11 and is provided with an additional liquid-filled tube 16 which is arranged concentric with the tube 14 and connected to the pressure gauge 11 in such a way that pressure due to the head of liquid in the tube 16 compensates for the pressure due to the head of liquid in the tube 14 whereby the pressure indicated by the pressure gauge 11 is indicative of the load sensed by the load cell 10 independent of the vertical distance between the load cell and pressure gauge. The concentric tubes 14, 16 which may be Surrounded by a protective metal braiding 22 are connected through a T-piece 23 to opposed Bourdon tubes 12, 13 of the pressure gauge, the Bourdon tubes 12, 13 being operative upon a pivotally mounted quadrant 18 which actuates a pointer 21.
