Abstract

A stainless steel has the following percentage composition:- .Cr.11.5 - 13.5 .Ni.7 - 10 .Al.0.5 - 1.5 .Mo.1.75 - 2.5 .C.up to 0.05 .Mn.up to 0.5 .Si.up to 0.6 .S.up to 0.02 .P.up to 0.04 .N.up to 0.05 .Fe.the balance It may also contain B up to 0.005 and Ti up to 0.1. The steel may be precipitation hardened by solution treating at 1500 - 2100 DEG F. quenching in air, oil or water and ageing at 900 - 1150 DEG F.; it may also be subjected to an additional intermediate, transformation treatment involving heating to 1300 - 1750 DEG F. and cooling to between 60 DEG F. and -200 DEG F. without ill-effect.
