Abstract

1,077,442. Waveguides. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Aug. 4, 1964 [July 20, 1963], No. 30519/64. Heading H1W. A waveguide 3, 4 has a strip of dielectric 5 extending in the direction of wave propagation and in contact with one wall of the waveguide in a region of maximum electric field strength, the structure being arranged for backward wave propagation. The waveguide may be semicircular, rectangular (Fig. 5, not shown) or trough-shaped (Fig. 8, not shown) with the dielectric bearing upon the bottom wall. The dielectric strip may be formed at least partly by a material which has a dielectric constant or permeability constant dependent upon field strength so that forward or backward waves occur selectively in the section.
