A gill box with several sets of gill bars between feed and drafting rollers has alternate sets of bars with needles directed upwardly and downwardly. Beneath the set B of downwardly directed needles there may be arranged a perforated plate covering a suction funnel through which impurities from the fibres may be drawn. The bars of the set C nearest the drafting rollers E, F may be more closely pinned than the preceding bars.
