Abstract

1,075,819. Handling radio-active material. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. July 22, 1965 [July 28, 1964], No. 31306/65. Heading B4Q. A pair of shielded cells 1, 2, shown in plan view in Fig. 2, are interconnected by a passage 4 which may be closed by a vertically-movable door 55 (Fig. 1, not shown). Each cell has a gantry 6 movable on rails 5 by chains 25 driven by a motor 8 and each gantry has tracks 10 on which a self-propelled hoist carriage 9 may move. The lower end of the door 55 carries tracks 53 whereby when the door is in its raised open position the tracks 10 may be aligned with the tracks 53 and the carriage 9 may move from the gantry 6 in one cell, through the passage 4 and on to the gantry in the other cell.
