Abstract

1,075,133. Work benches. CONTROLS & SWITCHGEAR Ltd. March 8, 1965 [March 13, 1964], No. 10825/64. Heading B4X. A workman's bench structure in the form of a cabinet comprises a fixed portion 10 having a fixed working top 13, a shelf 17 and trays 15, 16 which form in part the side walls of the bench, and a laterally movable part 11 including a side wall 18 of the cabinet which is slidable from a retracted to an extended position and is provided with tray-like containers in the form of drawers 21, 22. A movable working top 20 for the movable part 11 has a mounting on the movable portion which allows it to pivot through 270 degrees from its horizontal position of use to a position flat against the vertical side 18. The portion 11 is provided with a small flanged wheel (24) which can run upon a rail on the ground. The rail when not in use is stored in an inverted channel (25) in the fixed portion 10. The mounting for the working top 20 is slidable on guides fixed to the end wall 18 thus rendering the surface 20 adjustable in height. The member 20 may be completely removed from the stand and refitted at any one of a number of positions at the base of the bench to form a stand or stored flat against either end wall 18. An additional working surface (30), Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a tool tray slotted into the left-hand end of the fixed portion 10. Means for looking the portions 10, 11 in retracted position are described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown). A pipe vice may be stored in the upper drawer of the movable portion 11 and hinged to the end wall 18 so as to be swingable into working position. Attachment shackles may be provided for crane lifting gear or hinged handles or carrying bars for'manual operation.
