Abstract

A winding machine, in which a grooved, thread traversing drum rotates a package being wound, has means to direct air currents over the end faces and edges of the package. There may be either air nozzles continually operated to prevent a thread end from flying over the end of the package, or nozzles and a thread seeking suction nozzle or just a thread seeking suction nozzle with an enlarged mouth extending over the ends of the package, the suction nozzle being pivotally moved to seek a thread end on the package on thread breakage or exhaustion and operable to switch on the air nozzles-if provided.
