Abstract

[Also in Division G2] A cathode-ray tube fibre-optic faceplate has the fibre claddings which are of lower refractive index than the fibre cores composed of a material that transmits light only of wavelengths, e.g. red or blue, within a narrow spectrum which excludes those wavelengths emitted by the phosphor, e.g. blue or orange. The fibre cores may be composed of a material transmitting only the light emitted by the phosphor or a suitable filter layer may be placed over the inner or outer surface of the fibre-optic plate. The cladding material may bond the fibres together to form a vacuum-tight seal or the filter layer may provide the vacuum-tight seal. The fibres themselves may comprise the phosphor material.
