Abstract

To ensure uniform heating across the width of a metal strip (11) which, for the purpose of fusing coatings thereon (e.g. electrolytically deposited layers of tin) is passed over rollers (3, 3', 3") from a heating tank (2) to a quenching tank (9) through groups of induction heating coils (4, 6, 7) the side margins of the strip are heated by supplementary inductors (18) placed along the path of travel. The position of the inductors (18) is automatically adjusted for variation in strip position and/or width by pistons and rods actuated through hydraulic cylinders (22) responsive to detector devices (20).
