Abstract

1,071,959. Typewriting &c. W. H. WOLOWITZ. Sept. 21, 1964, No. 38373/64. Heading B6F. The obliteration of errors is effected by a white or paper-coloured pigment either on a separate ribbon 78 or formed as a band on the " ordinary " ink-ribbon 64. In the embodiment shown, the obliterating ribbon 78 is fed from a spool 80 through separate guides 86 in a vibrator guide 46, and fed to waste by rollers 88, 90. These rollers are held against rotation by their operating slide 92 and spring 102 and are rotated only during an errorcorrecting typing. Feeding is effected by a lever 94 and a wire 100 which has a loop 106 movable into or out of engagement with an operating lever 104. The wire 100 is moved, so it engages with the lever 104, by end 108 of a link 110 attached to the vibrator setting lever 62 connected by link 60, lever 58, slide 56, and dial 20 which can be adjusted so that the printing occurs either in the black or the error obliterating band of the ribbon 64. There are two back-spacing keys, a normal key 16 which operates a lever 30 and a backspace pawl 26; at the same time a crank 118 operates the lever 58 to ensure that the black area of the ribbon is in printing position. A second or auxiliary back-space key, used during error correcting, is also connected to the backspace pawl via parts 42, 44 and a flexible connection 112 to the lever 58 ensures that the white area is arranged in the printing area during back-spacing when obliteration by overtyping is required.
