Abstract

Adjusting devices.-The inking rollers 13, 14, Fig. 1, of rotary printing machines, particularly offset machines, have independent mechanisms for adjusting them relatively to the plate cylinder 2 and relatively to the distributing roller I. The rollers 13, 14 are journalled at 7, 7<SP>1</SP> in levers 5, 6 respectively, the lever 5 being pivoted about the hub of a gear-wheel 8, Fig. 2, having an eccentric bore engaging a fixed bush 4 in which the shaft of the roller 1 is journalled. The gear 8 can be rotated by a knob 10 through a worm and worm-wheel 11, 12 so as to adjust the roller 13 relative to the roller 1. By means of another knob 10, a gear 9 can be similarly rotated to adjust the roller 14 relatively to the roller 1. The adjustment is maintained because of the self-locking action of the worm-gearing. To adjust the roller 14 relatively to the plate cylinder, an eccentric 17 bearing against a part of the lever 6 is rotated by worm-gearing operated by a knob 21. By means of a second knob 20 and wormgearing, another eccentric 17<SP>1</SP> can be rotated to adjust the roller 13 relatively to the plate cylinder, such adjustment not affecting the distance of the axes of the rollers 13, 14 from the axis of the roller 1. The levers 5, 6 are urged towards the eccentrics 17, 17<SP>1</SP> by a connecting spring 24. Tripping.-A normally stationary cam 30 having depressions with which rollers 31 on the levers 5, 6 engage during normal working, is rotated to move the inking rollers away from the cylinder 2 when printing is stopped. Inking-roller bearings.-The bore 7 or 7<SP>1</SP>, each of lever 5, 6, is slotted (Fig. 4), to allow roller bearings (25, 26) of the rollers 13, 14 to be inserted at right-angles to the roller axis, and the bearings are held in place each by a screw (27) threaded through a ring (29) slidable axially into place. By loosening the screws (27) and sliding the rings (29) axially, the rollers may be removed from the levers.
