Abstract

1,070,830. Valves. CRANE Ltd. Nov. 12, 1965, No. 48128/65. Heading F2V. A butterfly valve closure disc 10 is formed with a peripheral edge closure surface 36 centred on the main axis of the disc and two rotational bearing surfaces 16 transverse to a central axis of the disc which lies in the mid plane of the disc. The bearing surfaces are so formed that they lie within a sphere formed by rotation of the peripheral surface about the axis. The disc is formed with a thickened portion 32 in which a bore is made to receive the operating spindle. The surface 36 is preferably formed with a cylindrical central portion between two bevelled portions, or the cylindrical portion may be omitted. The bevels preferably make an angle of 12¢ degrees with the main axis. The disc may be formed from a blank and the peripheral surface machined in one operation.
