Abstract

Organic azido compounds are prepared by reacting an inorganic azide with a compound of the general formula <FORM:1069771/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 each represents a hydrogen or halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, aryl or nitro group, or, when attached to adjacent carbon atoms in the benzene ring, together represent the non-metallic atoms necessary to complete a fused-on ring, Q represents an oxygen or sulphur atom or the group NR where R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl group, and X represents Cl or Br. When Q represents an oxygen atom or the group NR the product is apparently of the formula <FORM:1069771/C2/2> or <FORM:1069771/C2/3> whilst when Q represents a sulphur atom the product is apparently of the formula <FORM:1069771/C2/4> 2 - Chloro - benzoxazole and - benzimidazole are prepared by reacting POCl3 with benzimidazolinone or benzoxazolinone together with a small amount of hydrochloric acid. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 868,786.
