Abstract
1,069,134. Continuously winding wire and the like. SOC. DES ESTABLISSEMENTS ANDOUART. Sept. 29, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 39622/64. Heading D1J. A machine for continuously winding wire comprises a rotatable disc 43 carrying at least two winding reels 54, 55 and independent drive motors 62, 63 for the reels, the arrangement being such that when a reel 54 is full the disc 43 is rotated through half a revolution to bring the wound reel 54 from an upper winding station to a lower unloading station, this movement causing the empty reel 55 to act temporarily as a guide for the wire 1 as it continues to pass on to the lower reel 54. The wire is fed by a capstan 2 to a wire accummulator 14, 16 and thence to a wire traversing arm 19. The accummulator includes a pivoted arm 17, and movement of this arm in response to any difference in speed between the capstan 2 and the empty take-up reel 55 is used to adjust the speed of the motor driving the empty take-up reel such that it rotates at the same take-up speed as the speed of the wire supplied by the capstan 2. When the lower reel 54 is fully wound, as determined by a measuring meter, an arm 68 engages the wire extending between the reels 54, 55 and forces it to a setting where it is caught by a clamping device 74 on an end cheek 72 associated with the reel 55 and presses the wire leading to the reel 54 against the disc 43. The wire then breaks between the reels 54, 55. The wire is traversed onto the reel at the winding station by the guide arm 19 being reciprocated by a screw and nut means 20, 23 Fig. 2 (not shown), the direction of rotation of the screw being determined through the medium of two clutches that are alternately made effective. The shafts 52, 53 on which the reels 54. 55 are mounted carry cheeks 71, 72 having dogs that engage the reels 54, 55 to drive them, and clamping devices 74 for catching the wire. The shafts have locking means at their extremities for holding the reels 54, 55 thereon.
