Abstract

1,069,036. Reactor shields. BROWN BOVERI/KRUPP REAKTORBAU G.m.b.H. April 30, 1965, No. 18382/65. Heading G6C. A gas-cooled reactor is shielded by means of an unbonded loose filling which is bounded by walls within the pressure vessel and which is also used to aid purifying of the coolant gas, either by passing some of the coolant gas through the filling, or by placing part of the filling in the coolant circuit. The walls containing the filling can be the reflector and the thermal shield, and different filling materials can be placed in areas of different temperature. The shielding material itself acts as a filter material. and it may be supplemented by other filtering materials such as silver, copper, graphite etc.; these materials may be present as coatings on the particles of shielding material. Provision may be made for changing the filling material during reactor operation.
