Abstract

1,066,937. Pipe couplings. MASTABAR MINING EQUIPMENT CO. Ltd. April 6, 1966 [April 10, 1965], No. 15342/65. Heading F2G. A coupling for a flexible pipe 16 comprises an end connector portion 10 separated from a spigot portion 14 by a radial abutment 12 (in the form of an hexagonal nut on the connector screw), the spigot having a groove 18, of which at least the end wall 22 remote from the connector is radial, the groove 18 being beneath a compressible, ductile ring 24 with an inwardly directed circumferential depression 26 which overlies the groove and has cylindrical margins 28 overlying the groove end-walls so that when the ring 24 is fitted around the pipe 16 and compressed, material is displaced to form annular sealing ring of pipe material between the groove end-walls 18 and 20 and the margins of the ring 24. The Figure shows the ring 24 being compressed by a tool 30. Alternatively, there may be several such grooves on the spigot with which co-operate a single ring with several grooves or a corresponding number of singlegrooved rings.
