Abstract

1,066,121. Mobile gas filtration assemblies; electrostatic separators. C. H. HEISE. April 14, 1965 [Oct. 10, 1964], No. 15974/65. Headings BIT and B2J. In a dust separator mounted on a wheeled chassis (Figs. 2 to 5 not shown), dust-laden gas passes through six cyclone separators (14) and then downwards from an inlet 21 through five moving beds of powdered glass. A bucket elevator 34 delivers the glass powder to the left hand ends of a series of endless bands of fabric 28, and contaminated glass powder discharged from the right hand ends of the bands is delivered to a vibrating screen 38, through which the dust falls into compartment 40. To facilitate separation, electrodes 37 may charge the glass particles, and the resulting charges are neutralised by plutonium radiation sources 41, 42 and by earthing the screen 38. A pair of fans (25) extract the filtered gas from outlets 23 to a common flue (27). The apparatus is used to clean the hot effluent gases from an oil fired drying plant, which is used to dry stone aggregate for use in road making. The drying plant and the separating apparatus could be mounted on a common chassis, and the air from flue (27) could be recirculated to the drying plant.
