Abstract
1,065,698. Tubular heat exchangers. G. L. BEUSEN. Dec. 30, 1963, No. 51178/63. Heading F4S. Two spaced concentric tanks formed by an outer double-walled cylinder 1 and an inner drum 6 are interconnected by a bank of heat exchange tubes 7, each having a flat spiral shape adapted to meet the walls of each tank at an acute angle and defining a first fluid flow path from the drum to the cylinder annulus through said tubes, and a fan 3 or other flow producing means, such as a pump, passing a second fluid across said tubes, the fan or other flow producing means being coaxially arranged with the tanks, preferably in a single wall extension 2, and having a hub 5 or other flow guiding means of equivalent diameter to that of the drum to enable the drum to be disposed in the disturbed flow region of the hub. As shown, the inner drum is sub-divided by a transverse wall 8 to permit the first fluid to make two passes through upper and lower tube bank sections, the tubes of each respective section having opposite curvature as illustrated in Fig. 2 (not shown). The drum and/or outer cylinder may incorporate more than one transverse wall to provide more than two fluid passes.
