Abstract

1,064,974. Photographic diazotype processes. KEUFFEL & ESSER CO. March 19, 1964 [March 19, 1963], No. 11670/64. Heading G2C. Diazotype prints are produced by imagewise exposing a diazotype material comprising a support coated or impregnated with a diazonium compound, an azo coupler, a hygroscopic substance and optionally a substance to prevent pre-coupling, developing by heating in the presence of an amide decomposable at a temperature not higher than 185‹C. and optionally a substance for promoting amide decomposition, the amide being of the formula:- in which R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, etherified alkyl, amidated alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, aryl, substituted aryl, heterocyclic or the group in which R4 is hydrogen or methyl and n is 200-1000, this group with the rest of the formula being a monomeric unit of a polymeric amide and R2 and R3 are hydrogen, alkyl or aryl, the amide containing no amine group. The hygroscopic substance and amide decomposer specified is trichloracetic acid. The amide may be added to the light-sensitive layer, may be used in a backing or subbing layer or in a layer on a separate absorbent support, trichloracetic acid - being preferably added to the same layer as the amide.
