[Also in Division B8] Apparatus for transporting automobiles 14, Fig. 1, or other stores to or from storage spaces 70, comprises a dolly 10 having two sets of intersecting tracks 44, 46, Fig. 5 (not shown), directed respectively to the sides and to the ends of the dolly, a platen 12 having two sets of rollers 56, 58, Fig. 2 (not shown), for co-operation with the tracks and rams 22, 24 on the dolly for moving the platen selectively either laterally or longitudinally of the dolly into or out of one of the storage spaces. The dolly 10 has power-driven supporting wheels 20 and the rams 22, 24 are provided in pairs at the ends of the side and end walls 16, 18 of the dolly. The ram 24 of each pair is connected to the cylinder of the associated ram 22 so as to pivot it vertically and the piston-rod 34 of the ram 22 carries an arm 36 having a bifurcated end 38 for engagement with driving pins 40 provided on the platen 12. The storage spaces 70 are provided on each floor of a multi-storied building having a lift 74 for moving the dolly 10 to and from the floors, and each space 70 has tracks 76 for alignment with the tracks on the dolly. A plurality of rollers 80 are provided on the side walls of each space 70 for co-operation with a railing 68 extending round the platen 12 to provide additional support and guidance for the latter as it is moved into or out of the space (Figs. 3, 3a, not shown). The rollers 56, 58 on the platen 12 are provided in pairs so that each pair spans the gap between the edges of the dolly and the parking spaces as the platen is moved, Fig. 1a (not shown). A pivoted apron 82, Fig. 4 (not shown), which is biased to the vertical position by a spring 86, is provided to span the gap to the platen 12 so that an automobile may be driven on to the latter. The apron 82 is pushed down by the automobile and after the latter has passed reverts to its vertical position to provide a safety barrier. A plurality of lifts may be provided in the multi-storied building, Fig. 6 (not shown), and in a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), each floor of the building has a passage 90, along each side and at each end of which are located storage spaces, a lift being provided at either end or in the middle of the passages. Each passage has a set of tracks 96 for movement of the dolly therealong.
