Abstract
<PICT:1064075/C1/1> A matrix for an electron-image intensifier (see Division H1), in the form of a plate having a regular twodimensional array of elongated channels extending through its thickness, may be formed by sealing together a number of lengths of glass strip, at least alternate ones of which are grooved or corrugated. As shown, each strip is grooved on one side, but alternatively, plain strips may alternate with corrugated strips, Fig. 6 (not shown). The grooved or corrugated strips may be obtained by passing a ribbon of glass between co-operating rollers, one or both of which are toothed, in a furnace. The strips may be sealed together by heating to a sufficient temperature to cause softening of the glass, or may be previously coated with a low-melting-point glaze to permit a lower sealing temperature. Specific examples of dimensions are given. Glasses used are in mole percentages: SiO2 70.12; Al2O3 2.58; CaO 5.40; MgO 3.60; Na2O 16.82; K2O 0.35; B2O3 0.78; SO3 0.20 and SiO2 40; Na2 40; B2O3 20. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 954,248.
