Abstract

The glass, comprising SiO2, B2O3, Al2O3, Na2O, CaO, and F, has all the F being replaced by BaO. There is pref. (wt.%) 58-64 SiO2, 4-9 B2O3, 3-6 Al2O3, 12-19 Na2O, 3-7 CaO, the F being replaced by 1.5-4 BaO. Glass fibres are opt. made by drawing a melt of the glass in a flame the BaO conferring liquidus temp. of 687-787 degrees C and treatment temp of 682-1093 degrees C.
