In hydraulically-assisted steering gear comprising a valve sleeve 10 surrounding a valve member 11 connected to the steering shaft, a roller 17 mounted on a pin 16 located in opposed holes in the sleeve 10 bears against the interior surface of a transverse bore in the valve member 11 to connect the sleeve 10 and member 11 with provision for limited relative rotation. The valve member 11 is loaded axially by a spring 20 and/or by fluid pressure to maintain the roller 15 in contact with the bore 15 and resist axial displacements of the valve member 11 consequent upon rotation of the member 11 in the sleeve 10.
