1,060,609. Magnetic compositions. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 10, 1963 [Dec. 13, 1962], No. 48740/63. Heading H1H. An annular magnetic core having an outer diameter of at most 0À6 mm., an inner diameter of at least half the outer diameter, a switching time of at most 0.25 Á/sec. and a value of the quotient uV1¸αVz greater than 3, with a disturbance ratio of 0.61, is obtained by sintering the presintered product of a mixture of oxides or equivalent compounds Cu,Fe and Mn in the proportions 4-6 mol per cent CuO, 38-14 mol per cent Fe 2 O 3 , 50-58 mol per cent MnO. In preparation the presintered product is mixed with polyvinyl alcohol to form a paste, the paste is inspissated to a mass having a weight 1-1 to 1-2 times the weight of the presintered product, the larger particles are sieved out, and the remaining particles are compressed into a core having a density of 2.3 to 3À0 gm./c.c. The core is then heated within 1 minute in air or an air-oxygen mixture to a temperature between 1040‹ C. and 1120‹ C. on a high melting-point metal (platinum) or metal alloy (platinum rhodium) plate, held at this temperature for 1:5 to 10 minutes, cooled during 30 minutes by at least 70‹ C. and quenched in air at room temperature.
