Abstract

Drying oil coating compositions are prepared by dissolving methylcyclohexylene-2,4- and/or 2,6-bis-carbamates of hydroxyalkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids (see Division C2) in organic solvents such as white spirit optionally containing metal (Ca, Pb, Co) naphthenate oxidation catalysts.ALSO:Novel methylcyclohexylene-2,4- and/or 2,6-biscarbamates of hydroxyalkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids are prepared by heating a hydroxyalkyl ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid with methylcyclohexylene-2,4-diisocyanate, methylcyclohexylene - 2,6 - diisocyanate or a mixture thereof, or with methylcyclohexylene - 2,4 - bis - (C1- 4) alkyl carbamate, methylcyclohexylene - 2,6 - bis - (C1- 4) alkyl carbamate or a mixture thereof. The unsaturated carboxylic acid may be an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic acid containing one or more double bonds, or a saturated polycarboxylic acid partially esterified with an unsaturated alcohol.ALSO:Substrates of rubber, paper, wood, leather, metals, glass, polyvinyl chloride and textile materials are coated by brushing, dipping or spraying with methylcyclohexylene-2, 4- and/or 2,6-biscarbamates of hydroxyalkyl esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids alone or in admixture with organic solvents and/or metal naphthenate oxidation catalysts.
