Abstract

1,059,005. Frequency changing. MULLARD Ltd. Nov. 2, 1965, No. 46325/65. Heading.H2F. A microwave frequency doubler comprises a waveguide arrangement having a first, section A of normal aspect ratio receiving input energy at, say, 9 Gc/s., a second section B of reduced height (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown) and a third section E of normal aspect ratio transmitting energy at 18 Gc/s., the section B containing a diode D. A rectangular metal member I is disposed across, but insulated from, the waveguide at the beginning of the section B. This member, which has a width L1 of # out /4 prevents energy at 18 Gc/s. being transmitted back. The diode D is placed at one of four electric field maxima for 18 Gc/s. in the TE 02 mode D, F, G, H, and is on the axis of the output section E. The septum M provides a short circuit to energy propagating at 9 Gc/s. The waveguide portion C acts as a terminating section for energy in the lower portion of the waveguide so that this energy propagates along the portion E in the TE 01 mode. Input impedance matching probes P are provided. The manner of mounting the diode is disclosed (Fig. 4) not shown.
