Abstract
1,056,634. Vehicle driving mirrors. V. MARINOF. March 10, 1965 [March 10, 1964; Feb. 1, 1965], No. 10208/65. Heading B7J. A rear-view mirror comprises a rotary mirror system consisting of mirrors 6 and 7 with different optical properties mounted in a frame 8, the whole being arranged in a housing 3 on a pin 9 freely movable in an oblique seat 11 in a flange 12 of the housing. This seat allows the mirror system to be swung from its operative position A 0 -A 0 in the housing through an angle # to a withdrawn position A-A whereby the system can be rotated by a riffled knob 13 on a pin 10 through an angle α; when x=180 one mirror will have been replaced by the other. A helical spring 15 provided between the frame 8 and a nut 17 on the screw-threaded shank 16 of the stud 9 is compressed when the mirror system is swung out of its housing and acts so as to return the system. Magnets 18 may also he provided to retain the system in the housing, and in such a position the knob 13 is seated in a conical depression 20 in a groove 19 in the flange 12 and is held in place by spring 15. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the spring 15 is attached between the stud 9 and the pin 10, the pin 10 being provided with a cross-pin 26 which seats in an aperture in the frame 8 and is held there by spring 15. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), a permanent magnet 30 is provided on flange 12 behind a magnetizable knob 13 to hold the mirror system in its housing.
