In a mass flowmeter a rotor 28, having a polished or roughened surface or a surface formed with corrugations or teeth, is rotated at constant speed within an oval casing provided with an inlet and outlet on the major axis of the oval and with constricted passages on the minor axis of the oval formed between the rotor and the casing wall and the arrangement is such that the pressure difference in the fluid in the constructed passages above and below the rotor 28 is fed through tappings in the casing at such locations to a pressure device such as a bellows or pressure sensitive electrical device to obtain the mass flow of fluid flowing through the meter.
