Abstract

Novel steroid compounds of the formulae <FORM:1055926/C2/1> wherein St represents the substituted or unsubstituted androstane configuration, R3 represents a hydrogen atom and R4 represents an alkyl aryl, or aralkyl group or R3 and R4 each represent an alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl group or together with the nitrogen atom represent a cyclic ring structure incorporating these three groups and optionally substituted within the ring structure, R represents a hydrogen atom or the residue of a carboxylic acid and Y represents the oxygen atom of a keto group or two hydrogen atoms are obtained in a process in which a 21,22-dicarboxylic pregnane of the general formula <FORM:1055926/C2/2> is subjected to the action of a chlorinating agent to form the corresponding 21,22-di-(acid chloride) derivative which is then reacted with an amine of the general formula <FORM:1055926/C2/3> to form the corresponding diamide which is then subjected to the action of an alkali metal aluminium hydride to yield a desired compound which is optionally thereafter acylated at the 3-position and/or oxidized at the 11-position and/or salified as desired. Pharmaceutical compositions having vasodilative and spasmolytic activity are administered orally, parenterally or rectally.
