1,055,701. Knitting-machines; turning inside out. L. H. COLTON. Aug. 25, 1963 [Aug. 30, 1962 (2)], Nos. 12575/62 and 33264/62. Headings D1C and D1X. Pneumatic take down mechanism for a circular knitting-machine has a sleeve valve 25 incorporated in the tube 22 coupling the tube 19 positioned within the needle cylinder and the tube 20 leading to the receiving receptacle to the blower 24 creating the suction pressure. The valve 25 is under control of a pattern chain 17 causing it to be adjusted so that the pressure on the fabric varies during the knitting of an article. In addition a pipe line 34, 37 is provided with a similar valve 35 serving to operate in conjunction with a thread severing device to remove waste ends and clamp severed yarns. The tube 19 is movable within the cylinder such that after a portion of the fabric has been knitted and passed outside of it, it is lowered, Fig. 6, not shown, and subsequently the fabric sucked inwardly of the tube to cause it to be turned inside out.
