Abstract

1,054,548. Wet treating webs. SIR JAMES FARMER NORTON & CO. Ltd. Nov. 11, 1963 [Nov. 13, 1962], No. 42807/62. Heading D1L. In a machine for washing fabric web, particularly delicate, e.g. warp knitted fabric, the web 3 is held on an endless porous travelling belt 5 to the underside of which suction is applied preferably by suction boxes 9 having porous tops, liquor being sprayed to the top of the web, e.g. by jets 12. As shown the suction boxes 9 are depressurized by a pump 10 which returns treatment liquor to a trough 1 lying below the belt 5. A further pump 13 forces liquor from the trough 1 to the jets 12; fresh liquor may be introduced via a conduit 15. Alternatively separate pumps are provided for each suction box and each jet. A heating coil 16 is provided in the trough 1.
