A metal closure cap for a bottle &c. having a screw threaded or beaded neck 4, Fig. 3 (not shown), comprises a crown 1 and a skirt, a first portion 2 of which has a diameter greater than the maximum outer diameter of the bottle neck and a second portion 5 of which has a diameter approximately equal to that of the mouth 11 of the bottle, a plastisol sealing compound being applied to the inside of the cap so that there is a region 8 adjacent the second skirt portion 5 where the sealing compound is thickest. A portion 9 of the cap, which is made of tin plate or aluminium, is profiled or knurled to strengthen the skirt and provide a gripping surface. In a second embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), a frusto-conical surface 6 connects the first and second skirt portions and there is no profiling or knurling of the first skirt portion 2. A sealing head 10, Fig. 4 (not shown), presses the cap on to the mouth 11 of the bottle slightly deforming the second skirt portion 5 and spreading the part 8 of the sealing compound to form side seals 14, 15 with the bottle mouth. The first skirt portion 2 is then deformed by a roller 16 to fit the thread 3 of the bottle neck 4. Finally a rim 17 is folded below the threads 3. Alternatively, for a beaded bottle neck, the first skirt portion 2 is fixed to the bottle neck by rolling the mouth of the cap under the bead.
