Abstract

1,054,164. Bitumen-in-water emulsion. ARMOUR & CO. May 13, 1965 [May 13, 19641 No. 20264/65. Heading B1V [Also in Division C2]. A cationic bitumen-in-water emulsion contains a diamine emulsifier of general formula: where R is a C@ to C 27 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, x is an integer from 1 to 4 and A is 2 monovalent anions or one divalent anion. The diamine is dispersed in water in the presence of the acid H 2 A or HA and the aqueous solution is mxied with the bitumen. R is preferably stearyl, oleyl or palmityl (tallow and oleyl compounds are exemplified) and x is preferably 1 or 2. The acid may be acetic, hydrochloric, sulphuric, sulphonic, propionic, perchloric or hypochlorous. An alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt, for example calcium chloride, may be incorporated as a stabilizer.
