[Also in Division D1] A laminate, e.g. a napkin, comprises a reinforced wadding 4 or 4a provided on one side with a layer of moisture-repellent material 2 or 2a and which is reinforced by lines of stitching 3 provided perpendicularly to the direction of the fibres composing the wadding, the distance between adjacent lines of stitching being less than the average length of the fibres of the wadding. The moisture-repellent material may consist of fibres arranged parallel to the fibres of the wadding and the distance between each line of stitching is less than the average length of the fibres. By " moisture-repellent material " is meant a material, e.g. polypropylene, which absorbs substantially less than 1% of its own weight of moisture. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the web 4a is joined to the layer 2a by the stitching 3. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, the stitched web 4 has the moisture-repellent layer 2 laminated thereto by gluing. The other side of the wadding may be provided with a layer of textile fabric. The edges of the wadding may be reinforced by having the lines of stitching closer together or by using stronger threads for the stitching. To give the wadding elasticity, elastic threads may be used for the statiching. In a further embodiment (not shown), several layers of quilted material are superimposed.
