Abstract

1,049,557. Escapements. MALLORY BATTERIES Ltd. July 27, 1965 [July 27, 1964], No. 32117/65. Heading F2X. In a mechanism for imparting an intermittent rotation to a ratchet wheel 18, a follower 19 carried by a shaft 14 rotated through a worm gear 12, 13 by an electric motor 11 traverses a fixed cam 17 so that a spring 22 is alternately compressed and released, the slow axial movement of the shaft 14 during compression corresponding to. the pitch of a worm 24 so that the ratchet wheel 18 remains stationary while the rapid movement caused by release of the spring rotates the wheel through a predetermined angular interval against a pawl 25. The wheel 18 rotates a cam 28 for operating a switch. In further constructions, the worm 24 is replaced by a belleville washer or the shaft 14 by a non-rotatable arm having a pawl-shaped tip to engage the ratchet teeth, a pin-and-slot connection between the arm and retaining means 15 ensures that the arm and retaining means are maintained in correct relative relationship during the operation of the escapement.
