Abstract

1,047,576. Degasifying liquids. AVERYHARDOLL Ltd. June 21, 1965 [July 3, 1964], No. 26132/65. Heading B1M. The upper part of a separating chamber 1 of a gas/liquid separator is connected to the inletside of a pump 18 delivering the liquid to the chamber, so that a fraction of any gases accumulating in chamber 1 is drawn off by pump 18 through conduit 14 and consequently the dimensions of a drainage tank 3 in which liquid entrained in the gas as mist and frothing emulsions are removed may be reduced. The chamber 1 communicates with tank 3 through a conduit 15 and secondly through a by-pass system comprising an opening 5, a control chamber 2 and a passage 4 of small bore. Pump 18 draws liquid from a chamber 20 to which liquid is supplied through a filter 19 from a reservoir pipe 32 and also to which liquid accumulating in tank 3 flows through pipe 26 when float 23 is raised. Spring biased valve 11 opens under small pressure to allow accumulated gas in chamber 1 to pass to tank 3 and to atmosphere at 29. Only if liquid fills chamber 1 does float 7 lift and liquid flow through opening 5 to chamber 2. When pressures in chambers 1 and 2 are balanced valve 11 is reclosed and tank 3 receives liquid through passage 4. Modifications of the bypass system are shown in Figs. 2-5 not shown.
