Abstract
1,045,673. Indexing. MIDDLESEX TOOL & GAUGE CO. Ltd. July 23, 1963 [April 27, 1962], No. 16181/62. Heading B3B. An indexing assembly comprises a table 39 rotated by a fluid motor, a pawl 96 engaging notches in a disc 89 coaxial with the table, and means 105 for reversing the motor when the pawl enters a notch to hold the pawl and disc in an indexed position. The notches may be regularly or irregularly spaced and one or more notches may be blanked off by a plate 148. When a manual valve is operated, the table motor is started and air is also supplied to a groove 66 to lift the table and assist rotation. The pawl plunger 96 is forced out of its notch against a spring 98, thus depressing a plunger 102 and actuating a valve 105. This sets a circuit so that, when the pawl drops into the next notch, release of the valve 105 causes reversal of the motor and a firm holding of the table against the pawl. The continued pressure supply to the motor tends to force apart clutch members 51, 52, causing a clamping movement to be exerted on the table as springs 32, 56 yield. The pressure may cause automatic commencement of a machining operation. Lifting lugs are provided.
